Jupiter

Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system and 5th planet from earth. Here are some cool facts about Jupiter.

- Jupiter is the fastest Rotating planet in our solar system, making it's day the shortest among 8 planets.  It completes one rotation on its axis every 9 hours and 55 minutes. The fast rotation of the planets causes the flattening effect at the poles , giving it a pumpkin like oblate shape.

- Jupiter has 79 moons. The four largest moons of Jupiter—Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto called as The Galilean moons, were first discovered by Galileo Galilei in 1610.

- Jupiter’s Great Red Spot( also known as the eye of Jupiter) is an enormous storm that has been raging for over 300 years.  The storm is 2-3 times the size of earth.

- Jupiter has a very strong magnetic field. This is around 14 times stronger than the magnetic field found on Earth. That is why Jupiter displays a bright aurora in its high latitudes, similar, but not identical, to the phenomenon on Earth

- Jupiter is also known as a Failed star. If it was 80 times more massive, Nuclear Fusion would have started at it's core. it is made of the same elements (hydrogen and helium) as is the Sun, but it is not massive enough to cause hydrogen to fuse to helium.

- Jupiter is so big that 1300 earths can fit inside of it. It is so massive that the sun and Jupiter orbit their shared center of mass called as barycenter. The slightly off-center barycenter is what makes sun appear to wobble back and forth.
